I’ve been fly fisherman exclusively for many years by choice, but I’ve been a fisherman for over 30 years and I’ve practiced a lot of techniques. I started to tie flies right away, getting as passionate about fishing as i.e. the construction of artificials. I am a blogger and YouTuber, very active on social media and for over ten years I have collaborated with magazines, thematic channels and some of the most important Italian and global companies with which I work as a promoter and consultant for product development, without also leave out the fishing guide service during the best season. I organize courses and workshops of fishing and tying flies around Italy and especially in Rome, where I live and i have the basis of my travels. I regularly take part in both fly fishing and fly tying competitions with good results also at European level. I like to fishing for trout, but I also love to fish pikes and other predators (salt water species too)I have traveled a lot around the world to increase my experience and I like to face new situations in rivers and lakes to improve myself as fisherman. At the vise I mix the synthetic to the natural looking for simplicity and maximum effectiveness in fishing, while on the river I pass from nymph to dry without forgetting the streamer extremely easy in situations that require a different technique from time to time. I love fly fishing and while collecting many outings during the year every time I catch and release a fish I get as if it were the first in lifetime… this give me the right energy to always work hard to get results that can reward me. My nickname “Cap” with which I am known in the industry comes from the fact that several years ago I obtained the title of “IGFA Captain” and my friends started calling me this way so long time. I love to share my passion for this sport and if I can I try to compare myself with more and less experienced fishermen than I do because I think there is always to learn.

I was just 9 that it all began, when my father bring me with him on the river… I was fascinated to look carefully that “something” under the surface of the water with a certain elegance eating small insects… since then it has become almost my obsession, my research, but above all the desire for peace that all this conveyed to me… I was born in 1991, from the first hook holded between my fingers, the yarn found in my mother’s sewing box and the feathers found in the garden, I started learning to tie artificial flies… from dry flies, trought wet flies and nymphs, to the bulky streamers…but however as you know, the first love you never forget it and I love tying mostly dry flies and nymphs. I am a young fly tyer always looking for ideas end on the river I adapt according to situations even if (finally…) at the tip of my fly line there is always a dry fly… I have caught several species with this technique but the queen of the rivers, the brown trout, has a special place in my heart.

The fish of life? I don’t think there is a specific catch in lifetime, every single fish special, the emotions that it give to you catching are more important then the size!

Since I was young I played different fishing techniques and, in 2010, I landed to fly fishing. Suddenly I felt in love with it and it became my only passion. The year after, with the guide of friends, I started tying my first flies: both classics and moderns. Since then, with the support of tiers well known in Italy and Europe, I always tried to improve myself, getting new tips and refining my tying technique. I went constantly deep inside this new magic world with a lot of blood, sweats and tears, focusing mostly about the Italian Style where Francesco Palù was the pioneer. I had a cooperation with the famous teacher Massimo Magliocco, taking care of his tying articles published by some important specialized magazines. In 2015 I tied at the Forlì Fly Fair for my friend Diego Riggi, founder of Dressing Italiano, in 2016 I attended at the Vicenza Fly Fair at “Fly Fishing 360” corner, an organization wich I’m still associated to. In 2017 I attended again at the Vicenza Fly Fair tying at the desks of “Fly Tying Experience”, a tying group organized by Fabio Federighi, one of my best teachers and a friend. At this Fly Fair I won a Stonfo prize for a tying competition organized by the magazine La Pesca a Mosca e Spinning. I’m also a pro team member of Gulff Resins and I’m still associated to the Bereguardo Greygoose Club where I share my passion with my friends. In 2018 I took part in the Vicenza fair at the “Pescare Show”and the “Danish Fly Festival”. My flies go through different techniques, from traditional to modern ones with the use of every kind of materials available. I go fishing to rivers in Italy and abroad, plenty of challenges where I love trying my flies and push my limits. I’m conscious to be only at the beginning of an hard and long way, to pursue a path that will allow me to grow professionally.

I started fly fishing and fly tying since 1984, I have been a self-taught and from the beginning, while love the traditional fly fishing, but I wanted to use this technique also in rivers, canals and water where i can challenge Black Bass, Pike, Perch and Chub. For this reason I created the X Flies that reflect this “Alternative” vision of THE FF that for a fortnight I have also extended to Catfishes, Asp, Pike, Zander and Carp. This special alieutic path has also inspired me to confront the Salt Waters by fishing in “Alternative Fly Fishing” also Seabass, Serra, Barracuda, False Albacore, Sharks, Cephalos and many others. My trademark is the design and construction of new imitations aimed catching any species of fish and this thanks to the observation and study of what happens in the water. Over the last thirty years I have collaborated with several companies in the industry, Fly Fishing Magazines, TV and also joining in many Fly Tying competitions as judges.

It all started at the age of 11 when a great person I still call “the great Roby” for the first time showed me the world of fly fishing. For me everything was unknown, from launch techniques to building flies. Magical, how magical it was for me to see those tails twirling in the air intent on leaving flies as well as the making of artificial flies. The first casting and fly tying attempts (unwatchable but never stifled the urge to keep trying) and the first catch! My first catch. I couldn’t believe that i catched a trout with my imitation…this made me crazy! So I fell in love with fly fishing, I started to study this passion in a better way and especially in the smallest detail. Growing up I have always tried to improve but above all I have never stopped learning, because you know, in life you never stop learning and around the corner there is always something new and special that enriches your personal baggage. When I could, I always tried to run on the river to disconnect from the world and get into my own, the fishing space. This passion that I cultivated well over the years allowed me to start writing for some fishing magazines, which is really rewarding for me having realized a dream that I had since I was a child. I am also a “Fishing Guide” in my area, I go with people on the river trying to share what is still magical to me! I believe that there is nothing more beautiful than sharing this passion and what it makes you feel, just as it was for everyone the first time!

I have always looked for the best way to deceive fish and catch them with my handmade imitations, so I dedicated myself to developing flies mixing new ideas, materials and information, also obtained by other manufacturers and, on the whole, inspired by fishing. At first I was fascinated by submerged flies so I dedicated myself to making them with the right skills, in order to get the best possible results both in terms of appearance and efficiency in fishing. The next step was dedicated to nymphs and shoals and, with the same passion that I dedicated at the beginning with the submerged flies, I tried to reach the best possible compromise, in terms of imitation and efficiency in fishing. My concept of construction is to make flies that mimic more than one thing at the same time and that can be caught with various techniques in the same field. I like to combine imagination and technique so that the end result is the right mix of imitation and capturing power.

Sasa Benkun Roko

Sasa Benkun Roko

Hi,My name is Sasa Bencun Roko, but a lot of people call me “Roka”. I live in Serbia, in Valjevo (which is only 11 kilometers from Gradac) and I’m the owner of a lodge right on the river. I’m married and i‘ve a daughter in love with fly fishing too. When i was young I tied my first flies without specific tools as today. I love studying water insects and their life cycle, by taking inspiration from my home river (Gradac) I try to mix natural products with synthetic ones made by Textreme.Since many years I’m in Regal Vise Fly Tying Team, I’m also promoter for Dohiku hooks. I’m very happy to try improving and offering my experience to the Textreme Team’s group because I really love their innovative fly tying products. My main passion and qualification is tying dry flies, emergers and nymphs but I also usually pay special attention to realistic flies too. Sometimes I join the international fly tying competitions (e.g. Slovenia and Croatia) and I’ve managed to win the highest recognitions in the past 12 years, like a first place in Norway (2011) at Mustad’s competition, in the realistic category, with “Ecdyonurus metamorphosis” and a second place in the same category in Germany (2011) with a “Grasshopper”. I own the first flyfishing center in Serbia which offers accommodation, guiding on Gradac River, fly-tying and fly-fishing school workshops for every anglers.
I’m very pleased to join Textreme Team!

I was born in Reggio Emilia in 1998 and started fishing with natural weasel at the age of 4. In 2009 I approached fly fishing accidentally, starting totally by myselft and in 2010 I started tying the first flies that I tried in the streams of my areas looking for vairon and chub . In 2013 the meeting with Mauro Borselli (with whom I shared in addition to the passion for fishing, also the one for drawing) led me to greatly expand my knowledge, as until then I fished mainly chub, carp and Black Bass . I became pro-Staff for his X Flies, with which I began to capture torpedoes, sturgeons and many other species that populate the waters that I still frequent today. The experiences i gained led me to create many artificial based on the needs I found in fishing, and some of them are told in the articles published in the magazine ‘La Pesca Mosca & Spinning’ with which I collaborate from 2017 . The observation of what happens in nature has always been a crucial point in my fishing philosophy, for this reason that I draw and photograph what I see when I am fishing, and then try to find the correct tying solution at the vise using natual or synthetic material.
